Google Confirmed : Penguin 3.0 Update is Now Live

Penguin

Google has confirmed that they have updated the Penguin algorithm on Friday night i.e. 17 Oct 2014. Google has confirmed what many webmasters were sure they were seeing in their ranking reports this weekend: after a full year Google has finally released a major update to the Penguin algorithm.

Penguin is Google’s attempt to automate the identification of and rank-lowering “spammy” sites (sites that use manipulative techniques to try to influence search rankings).

If a site is hit by Penguin, it’s owners can do a cleanup and ask Google to reconsider their site. However, even if Google grants the reconsideration request, no rankings will return until Penguin is updated, so some webmasters have been waiting for a year now to get out of jail.

It is currently not clear how large an impact this made and if this was a refresh or if more signals were added to the algorithm.

This was one of the most anticipated algorithm updates in Google’s history, where webmasters have been waiting for a refresh for over a year.

It is expected that this update will enable Google to run Penguin refreshes more frequently, like they can with the Google Panda algorithm.
